But in the case of this home in eastern France, a creative solution for extra space has become the highlight of the entire residence. Loïc Picquet Architects pushed a new glass-fronted volume out of the back wall of the home to create an airy dining room.The addition features clean lines and textural modern materials, including a glazed wall, a concrete stairwell leading to the main living areas of the home and weathered timber siding. The new volume contrasts yet harmonizes with the traditional style of the old St. Louis home.Protruding into the garden, this creative home extension brings more natural light into the house, enlarging the kitchen and acting as a transitional space between the interior of the home and the backyard. Making use of the media facade of the Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, he projected the world’s most famous handheld puzzle onto a huge scale – inviting passers-by to solve the puzzle. In the process, Lloret transformed the nearby area, showing that (when used correctly) technology can make the urban environment more fun.Read on to find out how Lloret did it… How It WorksBy creating a blank white Rubik’s cube containing a series of motion tracking systems, input information was fed to software which calculated where the colors would be on the cube. Designed by Mikael Genberg of Genberg Underwater Hotels AB, is Africa’s first underwater hotel room.The Swedish-engineered, floating structure provides three distinct levels. The landing deck, at sea level, has a lounge area and bathroom facility. A ladder leads up to the roof which has a lounging area for sun worshipping by day and stargazing at night. Downstairs is the bedroom, surrounded by panes of glass affording near 360 degree views. Some creatures have even taken up residence around the room which affords some protection from predation.At night, underwater spotlights beneath each window attract the shyer and more unusual creatures like squid. Coral is already establishing itself on the anchoring lines and around the underwater structure. Octopus and even Spanish dancers have been observed attaching themselves to the glass panes.Visible from this special room is the Blue Hole, an anomaly in the coral reef approximately 250 meters off shore. It falls to 12 meters deep at high tide and is roughly 50 meters wide in diameter.
